Guide · Wedding budget 2027

What a Melbourne wedding costs

The average Victorian wedding cost $37,128 in the Easy Weddings 2025 survey. Their 2026 national average is $38,252. For a mid-sized Melbourne wedding in 2027, plan on somewhere between $38,000 and $50,000.

This is a service-by-service wedding budget guide for Melbourne, using the most recent survey figures and the prices I see from suppliers. Most suppliers quote 2027 dates a little higher than 2026, so ask for 2027 rates in writing before you sign.

01 · Venue and catering

Venue and catering

The venue is the biggest line in every wedding budget. The average Victorian couple spent $16,545 on their venue and $7,294 on catering in 2025. Many Melbourne venues price by the head, often $170 to $220 a guest for a standard package.

The guest list moves the budget more than anything else. Twenty fewer guests can pay for your photographer and videographer.

02 · Photographer

Wedding photographer cost

The average couple in Victoria spent $3,414 on a wedding photographer in 2025, and $3,567 nationally in 2026. Many Melbourne wedding photographers charge $3,500 to $6,000 for a full day, with editorial and film photographers toward the top.

My photography collections are $2,200 for six hours, $2,800 for eight and $3,400 for ten, on digital and film, with a sneak peek within 24 hours. Registry weddings start at $880 for two hours.

03 · Videographer

Wedding videographer cost

Victorian couples spent an average of $3,050 on a wedding videographer in 2025, and $3,125 nationally in 2026. On those averages, booking a photographer and a videographer separately comes to about $6,500.

My photo + video collections are one team, a photographer and a videographer working from one plan. $5,000 for six hours, $5,900 for eight, and $6,800 for ten, including a 4K wedding film and a documentary film with your vows and speeches. Super 8 film can be added from $790.

04 · Ceremony

Celebrant and registry

A celebrant averages about $1,030 in Victoria and nationally. A civil ceremony at the Victorian Marriage Registry in the Old Treasury Building is $500 on weekdays and $600 on weekends for a classic ceremony, or $400 for legal-only, Monday to Thursday. The Melbourne civil wedding guide has the details.

05 · Flowers and styling

Florist and styling

Victorian couples spent about $2,231 on flowers in 2025, and nationally $2,639 in 2026. Hire and decorations add more, often $2,000 to $4,000. For fashion-forward, editorial weddings, a stylist and florist working together make the biggest visual difference in the photographs.

06 · Fashion

Dress, suit, hair and makeup

The average wedding dress costs about $2,600 and the average suit or formal wear about $2,100. Hair and makeup averages $815 in Victoria and $992 nationally, and many Melbourne artists charge $800 to $2,500 depending on the bridal party.

If fashion matters to you, this is the line to protect. In an editorial wedding the dress, the tailoring and the styling are what the photographs are built around.

07 · Everything else

Music, cake, cars and stationery

DJ or band, around $2,100 to $2,250 on average. Cake, about $650. Wedding cars, $1,000 to $1,200. Invitations, about $1,000. An engagement session with me is $550 for one hour or $850 for two, on digital and film, and it doubles as invitation photos.

Engagement rings averaged $6,842 in the 2026 survey, usually counted outside the wedding budget.

08 · Saving

Where couples save

Cut guests before you cut suppliers. Choose a venue where the ceremony, portraits and reception are close together, so you need fewer hours of coverage. A registry wedding and a long dinner with family is one of the best-value weddings in Melbourne.

Book photo and video together. One team for the whole day costs less than two companies booked separately. See the full wedding photography and video packages.
