You can call me J.
A Melbourne-based wedding photographer with a background in fashion editorial photography. Fluent in English and 中文.
Being comfortable in front of a camera isn’t something most people are born knowing how to do. That’s where I come in.
You don’t need to know how to pose. That’s my job.
I’m calm by nature, and a little particular about the details. I’ll find the good light, tell you what to do with your hands, and demonstrate the pose myself before asking you to try it. Then I step back when the moment is better left alone.
A balance of gentle direction and honest observation. A little editorial, a little documentary, always personal.
My background is in fashion photography, where I learnt composition, light, and the small details that make an image feel considered. Weddings bring those same things into something far more personal. There is still room to make something editorial. There is also the unpredictability, the people, and the moments you could never recreate if you tried.
01.
Give me a packed timeline, changing light and a few unexpected surprises. I enjoy figuring things out as I go, and making the day feel easier for everyone around me.
02.
Not every wedding. But a heartfelt vow, a first look or a father-daughter dance will usually get me. Not ideal when you’re holding a camera.
03.
I speak Mandarin and English. I can talk with every generation of your family, especially on a day that brings multiple cultures together.
I work with both digital and film. Slowing down, making every frame count. I keep coming back to it.
I work from Echo Darkroom in Collingwood, alongside the team from Cool Studio. I hand print colour photographs from negatives, and sometimes develop and scan my own colour film. Tedious work. Rewarding work.
I used to run a film lab. Now it is my darkroom and scanning space.
Kind words
“Every time I started feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I’d look to you and instantly felt calmer.”

Twenty years from now, I want you to remember more than how your wedding looked.
